NY Times Notes "Tidal Wave" of Import Data from Import Genius
Everybody's favorite economics bloggers at Freakonomics posted a glowing review of ImportGenius.com today. Justin Wolfers, an economist at the Unviersity of Pennsylvania, highlights several interesting uses for our U.S. ocean freight import database while also raising some interesting questions on how our dataset might influence the future of competition.
However unlikely it may be, we've got to admit, the thought of companies using the data to collude with industry rivals had even never occurred to us before. Let's hope that easy access to this public data only increases competition, rather than leading to the darker outcomes suggested by Mr. Wolfers.
